446 Stainless Steel is a high-chromium ferritic stainless steel. Its alloy content is usually 23-27% chromium, with low carbon, which is responsible for its excellent oxidation resistance at high temperatures. It can also contain traces of silicon, manganese, and sulfur. Although its corrosion resistance in water is mediocre relative to austenitic grades, its main strength is its scaling and sulfidation resistance to 1100°C (2000°F). Mechanical characteristics consist of a tensile strength of around 450-600 MPa, excellent yield strength, and medium ductility. It cannot be hardened using heat treatment.
