SS 409L has around 10.5–11.75% chromium content and is titanium-stabilized (≤0.75%) to enhance intergranular corrosion resistance. It possesses low carbon (0.03% max) that improves weldability and minimizes carbide precipitation. Mechanical properties are a tensile strength of approximately 380 MPa, yield strength of 170 MPa, and elongation of 20%. The alloy is magnetic in nature and possesses good thermal conductivity and oxidation resistance up to 675°C. The alloy retains its mechanical soundness under thermal stress and is therefore preferred for use in automobile exhaust parts and the like.
