In order to reduce carbide precipitation during welding, stainless steel 310S pipes have a low carbon content (maximum 0.08%) and roughly 24–26% chromium and 19–22% nickel. The alloy has a yield strength of roughly 205 MPa and a tensile strength that ranges from 515 to 750 MPa. Because of their lower carbon content, SS 310S pipes have better corrosion resistance than 310 and exceptional resistance to oxidation and scaling at temperatures as high as 1100°C.
