SS 321 has 17–19% chromium, 9–12% nickel, and titanium (at least 5 times the carbon content) as stabilizing material. It is generally 0.08% maximum in carbon content. The mechanical properties are tensile strength of 515 MPa (min), yield strength of 205 MPa (min), and elongation of 40%. The oxidation resistance is good up to 870°C, and stability in high-temperature applications is maintained. Its austenitic microstructure has outstanding toughness, even at cryogenic temperatures. SS 321 also resists carbide precipitation upon welding, maintaining long-term structural integrity.
