SS 314 contains 23–26% chromium, 19–22% nickel, 1.5–3% silicon, and ≤0.25% carbon. Silicon content increases its resistance to oxidation at elevated temperatures. It provides tensile strength in the range of 550–700 MPa, yield strength of about 205 MPa, and elongation of 40%. SS 314 resists scaling and sustains mechanical integrity in cyclic thermal exposure environments. SS 314 is non-magnetic in the annealed state, has good weldability, and possesses toughness in oxidizing service. This alloy functions effectively in processes of direct flame, hot gas, and alternating heat exposure.
