309LMo filler rods and wires are alloyed with about 23% Chromium, 13% Nickel, 2.5% Molybdenum, and minimal carbon content to improve corrosion resistance and minimize carbide precipitation. Both MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) welding processes are suited for these fillers with high mechanical properties such as tensile strength of ~580 MPa, yield strength in excess of 400 MPa, and elongation of about 30%. The inclusion of molybdenum enhances pitting as well as crevice corrosion resistance, particularly in chloride-enriched environments. These wires deposit good welds with superior crack resistance and shiny bead finish, thus suitable for both overlay and structural applications.
