SS 316L tubing contains 16–18% Chromium, 10–14% Nickel, 2–3% Molybdenum, with a maximum content of 0.03% Carbon. Low carbon content provides improved corrosion resistance after welding. Mechanical properties involve a tensile strength of approximately 485 MPa, yield strength of 170 MPa, and very good elongation over 40%. It also possesses high resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. These properties make SS 316L tubing suitable for application in aggressive environments, particularly where welding is required, without danger of corrosion at the weld seams.
