The high-chromium ferritic stainless steel alloy used to make stainless steel 446 Stud Bolts normally contains 23–27% chromium, with trace amounts of silicon, manganese, and molybdenum added for performance. It has moderate elongation, a yield strength of about 275 MPa, and a tensile strength of about 485 MPa. Although it can be work-hardened, heat treatment cannot harden it.
