446 Stainless Steel A high-chromium ferritic stainless steel alloy with a low carbon content (maximum 0.20%) and 23–30% chromium is used to make nuts. Even at high temperatures, this composition offers exceptional resistance to pitting, scaling, and oxidation. Together with exceptional hardness and moderate ductility, the nuts have good mechanical strength, with a tensile strength of about 485 MPa and a yield strength of about 275 MPa.
