SS 455 is an age-hardenable martensitic stainless steel alloy with the composition of chromium (11–12%), nickel (7.5–9.5%), copper, and titanium. It has excellent tensile strength up to 1380 MPa and yield strength of nearly 1170 MPa on aging. It achieves both corrosion resistance of stainless steel and high strength of alloy steels. The alloy has good notch toughness and resistance to fatigue. SS 455 can be heat-treated to different levels of strength depending on the structural or fatigue-loaded component requirements.
