UNS S41800, or stainless steel 418 bar, is a martensitic stainless steel alloy with 12% chromium, 0.15–0.25% carbon, and trace amounts of nickel, vanadium, and molybdenum to improve corrosion resistance, strength, and hardness. Following heat treatment, SS 418 bars show good hardness, high yield strength (~690 MPa), and excellent tensile strength (~930 MPa). Under high-temperature and high-stress conditions, the alloy retains its stability and functionality. SS 418 offers exceptional mechanical qualities appropriate for highly engineered and crucial load-bearing applications, despite having a lower resistance to corrosion than austenitic steels.
