Stainless steel nuts are mostly made of austenitic stainless steels like SS 304 or SS 316. SS 304 is usually made up of 18% chromium and 8% nickel and has excellent general corrosion resistance along with good formability. SS 316, with its extra molybdenum percentage content (2-3%), offers improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance, especially in severe chemical and marine conditions. Mechanically, these nuts have high tensile strength (typically 515-620 MPa for SS 304 and 515-690 MPa for SS 316), good yield strength (205-310 MPa for SS 304 and 205-310 MPa for SS 316), and ductility. The hardness and strength imparted to them ensure a vibration-proof safe connection.
