SS 409 fasteners are produced from a ferritic stainless steel alloy containing 10.5–11.75% chromium, with added titanium to aid in stabilization. Its mechanical properties are tensile strength between 380–620 MPa and yield strength approximately 170–310 MPa. The fasteners are magnetic in nature and possess a good corrosion resistance, particularly in exhaust gas conditions. Although less corrosion-resistant than 304 or 316, SS 409 has satisfactory strength, oxidation resistance, and high-temperature thermal stability up to 675°C and is well suited for heat-affected applications.
