SS 304L has 18–20% Chromium, 8–12% Nickel, and up to 0.03% Carbon. The content provides superior resistance to corrosion, particularly in mildly corrosive conditions. It has a tensile strength of approximately 485 MPa and yield strength of 170 MPa. The low carbon facilitates the avoidance of sensitization during the welding process, which avoids the likelihood of intergranular corrosion. SS 304L is good in terms of ductility, formability, and toughness and is thus suitable for use in welded piping systems and pressure vessels across different industries.
