About 18–20% chromium, 9–13% nickel, and 0.75% niobium make up stainless steel 347 flanges, with trace amounts of silicon, carbon, and manganese. Niobium, sometimes referred to as columbium, is added to the alloy to stabilize it, improve resistance to intergranular corrosion, and stop carbide precipitation during welding. These flanges are strong even at high temperatures and have outstanding resistance to oxidation. They are ideal for high-stress and high-heat industrial settings due to their mechanical qualities, which include a tensile strength of about 515 MPa, a yield strength of 205 MPa, and an elongation of 40%.
