Iron and 23–27% chromium make up the majority of stainless steel 446 bars, with trace amounts of silicon, molybdenum, and carbon. At high temperatures, this ferritic, high-chromium stainless steel exhibits remarkable resistance to oxidation, sulfidation, and scaling. Mechanically, SS 446 has a yield strength of about 275 MPa and a tensile strength of about 485 MPa. In contrast to austenitic grades, it has moderate hardness and limited ductility while maintaining structural stability under heat stress. Because of these characteristics, it is a good choice for applications that are subject to high temperatures and corrosion.
