In order to prevent carbide precipitation, stainless steel 348H pipe fittings have a higher carbon content (up to 0.10%) than standard 348 and are made up of 17–19% chromium, 9–13% nickel, and columbium (niobium). Superior resistance to intergranular corrosion and increased strength at high temperatures are provided by this composition. These fittings usually have a yield strength of about 205 MPa and a tensile strength of 515–750 MPa. When used continuously up to 900°C, SS 348H retains its mechanical integrity and resistance to oxidation.
