SS 304 sheets and plates consist of 18–20% chromium, 8–10.5% nickel, ≤0.08% carbon, and minor quantities of manganese, silicon, and iron. This material offers very good corrosion resistance, particularly in oxidizing environments. The mechanical properties are tensile strength of 515–750 MPa, yield strength of ≥205 MPa, and elongation of approximately 40%. SS 304 also possesses very good toughness, good weldability, and is non-magnetic in the annealed state. It exhibits good performance in a broad range of temperatures and environments, which makes it one of the most versatile stainless steel grades available.
