A low-carbon, austenitic stainless steel alloy, stainless steel 317L provides exceptional corrosion resistance, particularly in environments that are acidic and chloride-rich. In addition to 0.03% carbon and trace amounts of silicon and manganese, it usually contains 18–20% chromium, 11–15% nickel, and 3–4% molybdenum. The low carbon content reduces carbide precipitation during welding and improves weldability. With an elongation of 40–50%, a yield strength of approximately 205 MPa, and a tensile strength of 500–700 MPa, the alloy is both robust and formable for high-performance industrial applications.

High resistance to corrosion by chlorides and acids available as sheets and plates from a thickness of 3mm to 100mm in width to 2 meters. The hot-rolled product allows heavy usage because it produces a tough and durable finish.
