Austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum steel, stainless steel 317, is made to be more resistant to corrosion in harsh conditions. Its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, particularly in acidic media, is increased by its typical composition of 18% chromium, 14% nickel, and 3–4% molybdenum. With a tensile strength between 515 and 827 MPa, a yield strength of about 205 MPa, and an elongation of roughly 40%, the material has exceptional mechanical qualities. Because of its exceptional formability, weldability, and durability, it can be used in high-performance and structural applications under challenging industrial circumstances.
