AWS E312-16 electrodes are specially designed for welding dissimilar metals and hard-to-weld stainless steels. These electrodes offer excellent metallurgical bonding strength and thermal and mechanical stress-resistant high cracking resistance. E312-16 is produced by Vinit Stainless in Chennai, India. It is renowned for its superior weldability and performance in maintenance welding. It is commonly used by industries that demand tough, corrosion-resistant welds in demanding conditions. Being a high-performance electrode, it supports a stable arc and smooth bead finish, making it perfect for both skilled professionals and general fabrication purposes.
E312-16 electrodes consist of around 29% Chromium, 9% Nickel, and traces of other elements to sustain a duplex ferrite and austenite structure. This type provides outstanding tensile strength (~850 MPa) and excellent resistance to cracking. The electrode provides a stable, low spatter arc and self-releasing slag. Both AC and DC polarity can be used and all-position welding is supported. Mechanical toughness and air-hardening allow it to be suitable for welding hard steels and unknown base metals. High chromium-nickel ratio also improves the resistance to scale and oxidation when subjected to high-temperature conditions.

Designed for high corrosion resistance, these electrodes feature a light coating for better arc stability and smooth weld appearance. They come in sizes such as 1/8 inch and 3/32 inch, ideal for welding dissimilar metals.
Known for enhanced corrosion resistance, these electrodes have a heavier coating that improves arc stability and slag removal. Available in sizes like 3/16 inch and 5/32 inch, they are suitable for high-strength applications and vertical positions.
These electrodes are designed for shielded arc welding, offering excellent corrosion resistance and superior weld strength and durability. Typically available in 1/8 inch and 5/32 inch sizes, they are used for welding stainless steel to carbon steel.
The electrodes are extensively applied for welding dissimilar metal pairs, such as carbon steels to stainless steels and tool steels. Due to their thermal shock absorption and resistance to cracking, they are ideal for maintenance and repair activities. Generalized applications involve the repair of shafts, pumps, valves, and other pressure-bearing equipment within power plants, mining, and shipbuilding industries. E312-16 is also utilized as a buffer layer in multi-layer welds. Due to its versatility, it is commonly chosen when the base metal content is not known or changing. The electrode provides high-strength, resistant welds against corrosion even in hostile chemical or thermal environments.
