EP fittings are normally constructed using SS 316L or SS 304L with chromium (16–18%), nickel (10–14%), and molybdenum (2–3% for 316L). Electropolishing removes surface defects and forms a passive oxide layer for enhanced corrosion resistance. EP fittings provide tensile strengths of about 485–515 MPa and yield strengths of 170–205 MPa. Their highly smooth surface (Ra ≤ 0.4 µm) retards bacterial adhesion and makes cleaning easier.
