SS 15-5 PH stainless steel has chromium (14–15.5%), nickel (3.5–5.5%), copper (~3.5%), and is martensitic with a precipitation hardening mechanism. It offers tensile strength of up to 1310 MPa and yield strength of 1100 MPa, as a function of aging treatment. It shows very high transverse toughness and good resistance to corrosion, even in environments containing chlorides. The steel is weldable and machinable with ease in the annealed condition and ages to a very high hardness. Its low distortion and reproducible mechanical properties qualify it for applications where there are close tolerances and high reliability required.
