304L stainless steel fasteners are a low-carbon variant of 304 stainless steel, containing less than 0.03% carbon, 18–20% chromium, and 8–12% nickel. This low carbon content improves resistance to corrosion and stops carbide precipitation when welding. These fasteners have an elongation of about 40%, a yield strength of about 170 MPa, and a tensile strength of about 485 MPa. Even at cryogenic temperatures, the austenitic structure offers exceptional toughness.
