SS 304L flanges are low-carbon forms of SS 304, which contain 18–20% chromium and 8–12% nickel with a maximum carbon level of 0.03%. This reduced carbon level enhances resistance to intergranular corrosion after welding. Mechanical specifications consist of tensile strength of 485 MPa, yield strength of 170 MPa, and elongation of approximately 40%. SS 304L exhibits excellent cryogenic and elevated temperature strength and toughness. These flanges provide excellent weldability, resistance to corrosion in mildly acidic conditions, and are best suited for applications where heat treatment after welding is not possible.
