Stainless Steel 316 and 316L are austenitic stainless steels composed of 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum, which enhance corrosion resistance, especially in chloride-rich environments. The 316L grade contains a maximum of 0.03% carbon, improving weldability by minimizing carbide precipitation. These alloys provide excellent strength and ductility, with minimum tensile strength of 515 MPa, yield strength of 205 MPa, and elongation of 40%. The combination of mechanical strength and corrosion resistance makes them suitable for applications in harsh industrial, marine, and sanitary environments.
