Stainless Steel 420 Fasteners are made of martensitic stainless steel, which contains trace amounts of silicon and manganese, as well as 12–14% chromium and 0.15–0.40% carbon. They provide good hardness and moderate corrosion resistance following heat treatment. The tensile and yield strengths of SS 420 fasteners are roughly 700–800 MPa and 500 MPa, respectively. Depending on the heat treatment, they can be as hard as 50 HRC. Where mechanical strength and wear resistance are crucial, 420 fasteners are perfect, despite being less corrosion-resistant than austenitic grades.
