About 16–18% chromium and 0.75–0.95% carbon make up stainless steel 440B fasteners, with trace amounts of silicon, manganese, and molybdenum. After heat treatment, 440B, a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel, achieves hardness levels of up to 58 HRC, providing exceptional strength and hardness. It offers good wear resistance and a tensile strength of approximately 750–950 MPa. Although SS 440B has a moderate level of corrosion resistance when compared to austenitic grades, it is excellent for fastening components that are subjected to friction and mechanical stress because of its exceptional mechanical durability and edge retention.
